Product Description The slim and compact design of the SC-HC30 is best matching for your room. It can easily be installed in limited places, like a small bedside shelf or your desk in your home office. Also with a wall-mountable design, the SC-HC30 lets you choose to place your audio system the way you want, to stylishly match with your interior. More rigid and lighter evolved bamboo cone material has been adopted for speakers. With the new bamboo cone speakers the sound becomes much more responsive. Vocals are more pure and clearer, and the dialog being crisper and easier to understand than ever before. Simply dock your iPod or iPhone, or insert the CD and enjoy your favorite music with high quality sound.

Decent sound - but no Bose.... August 31, 2010 TinkerMan (Georgia) I bought the Panasonic SC-HC3.... which, reviewing all the specs, is apparently identical to the SC-HC30 - only an earlier edition. This was an impulse buy - pure and simple. I was in Sears to purchase a couple of wrenches that were on sale.... but - I happened to walk through the electronics department and saw a table with a half dozen of these on clearance for $50!!! They even had one on display and it sounded halfway decent with the Disney CD they happened to have on hand. I couldn't test it with an Ipod and the radio reception was non-existent in the store. It looked cool and slick with the 2-way automatic sliding door and the Ipod fits inside - nice and protected - not like those where it sits exposed and vulnerable on top. Unfortunately, the sales girl was a total dingbat and didn't know if it came with a remote - and it's not listed on the box either. She also said I had to buy it that day.... those that were left would be thrown out that night!!! I hope Sears isn't that stupid - obviously some of their sales people are though.
Well, for $50 - I thought, "Why not.". Getting it home - I was pleased to find it did have a nice remote and the unit sets up easily. The sound is decent - but it's not a Bose by a long shot. Highs and lows are a bit timid - little sizzle to the cymbals, milquetoast crispness to the brass section, and bass lacking real punch. The 4 equalization presets are laughable... but you can adjust bass and treble independently. There is a bass enhancement setting, a surround mode and a "Remaster" setting that make a little improvement in sound quality. You can also play around with the EQ settings of your Ipod itself to get the best sound. The remote is multifunctional and laid out logically. With the Ipod in use, there are a few quirks though. Flipping to the Artist menu will bring you back to the top of the list - not where you'd left off - and you must press the select button each time to move the cursor... holding it down will not advance down the list automatically. Bummer!
FM radio reception is adequate for local stations - but only if you use the included antenna wire. If you like listening to AM, however, you will be sorely disappointed. It has a cumbersome external loop antenna attachment that doesn't work very well. You would think they'd hide a ferrite antenna inside the unit - like even the cheapest (but better receiving) AM radios do - but, apparently, they didn't. You could, perhaps, add a long wire antenna to the setup as suggested... but that's not practical for everybody.
So - bottom line... for $50 I think I got a great deal - but no way would I shell out any more than that for this unit. If you can find one on clearance - go for it.... otherwise save up for a Bose....
FM reception August 30, 2010 Al Weak tuner. Radio reception is horrible. I live in a big city, and unable to get stereo, just static filled FM.
This unit replaces a sony in the kitchen, that did not require an antennae. Even the wire antennae supplied with this one, strung to the ceiling, will not get me stereo reception.
Fantastic August 19, 2010 A. Landry (Houston TX) What a clean sleek and clear sounding stereo, I was very suprised by the sound, its crisp, and I like the features and the look is just incredible.
Highly Recommend it

You will not regret buying this unit for the sound and the ability to play MP3 CDs
it comes with a very easy to use remote also comes with alarm which allows you to use it as an IPOD or CD alarm clock.
Disappointed August 11, 2010 Susan E. Kaylor (Houston) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this item and am disappointed. I do like the sleek appearance and ease of use, but the antenna system for AM radio leaves much to be desired. No matter the location or arrangement of the wire antennas, I cannot get any decent clarity or tone. There is much static in the background and the voices are garbled. I have resorted back to using my cheap-o portable system for AM reception. But, now for the good news: playing CD's are a delight. There are enough options to set the system to produce your desired sound and tone. Ditto for FM reception: the clarity and big sound are definite assets.
Take a chance - you might have better luck than I did.
